Summary:
This is an important new book for all Australian commercial lawyers. Until recently, no full-length monograph was devoted to this subject in Australia. In 2011, the Australian edition of Lord Justice Lewison's fine work, The Interpretation of Contracts, was published by Thomson Reuters (co-authored with David Hughes). It is now complemented by an equally fine work by one of Australia's leading contract scholars, Professor Carter. The text is arranged very clearly, with the main principles of construction distinctly formulated. Almost half the work devoted to the difficult questions concerning the use of contextual materials.
