The writing box was presented to the Hon Sir Harry Gibbs in 1986.

The initials HTG are engraved on a small brass plaque on the lid of the box. There is a single brass lock but the key is missing. The writing surface is the original royal blue embossed leather. Underneath the writing surface there is an inscription reading: "With best wishes from The Bar Assocation of Queensland 25th June 1986". The desk contains a contemporary glass ink bottle with a brass screw-on lid and a pen holder with a slight chip at one end. The seal holder is empty but the lid is present. Victorian, c1850.
