The Australian Institute of Criminology undertook a preliminary retrospective study of police health for varying periods between 1966 and 1985. This research brief concentrates on selected findings during the decade 1976-85 regarding shootings and bombings, accidental deaths, deaths from other causes, non fatal assaults, invalidity and resignations. It examines whether the rates associated with these measures increased over time, and whether police officers in Australasia were significantly disadvantaged in comparison with other groups.
