Summary:
The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Justice Agreement forms part of the Queensland Government response to the Ministerial Summit on Aboriginal Deaths in Custody that was convened on 4 July 1997 ... The purpose of this Agreement is to reduce the rate of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples coming into contact with the Queensland criminal justice system through the coordination of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander justice policies, programs and services. It seeks to achieve this by establishing a partnership between Queensland Government agencies and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of Queensland. Fundamental to this Agreement is the promotion of empowerment and self-determination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
