Summary:
The internationalisation of supply chains is an inevitable part of modern production. Despite being the subject of extensive debate globally, including at the UN-level, accountability for exploitation in those supply chains remains a challenge. Over the last few years, several countries have enacted legislation to regulate and hopefully eradicate associated exploitation, often referring to 'modern slavery'. There is some degree of agreement that 'modern slavery' encompasses forms of forced labour, debt bondage and forced marriage, but it is frequently - and often loosely - used to encompass broader forms of exploitation. - Extract from introduction.
